SIGNotes for September 1996

Beginning in September the Hardware SIG will meet on the 1st Tuesday at 8:00pm in SIG Room 'B'. In August I installed the Panansonic 5-Disc CD Changer. The physical installation went smoothly. Windows 95 automaticaly recognized the changer and installed the proper drivers that enabled the first drive. I had to install the software that came with it to enable Windows 95 to recognize the other 4 drives. The drive has more shortcomings than advantages over a single drive. The system can only recognize 1 drive at a time. If you are playing a music CD and want to access a program CD. The music stops while the program is running. It also slow down Windows Explorer. Each disc has to be accessed to see what's on it. On the plus side I can access both discs in my Phone Disk program. Also the autoplay function doesn't seem to work. September's project will be to reinstall the CD drive I took out to install the changer. As always, if you have questions or a project for the SIG, give me a call or send me an email.
