Benefits of Membership
in the Oklahoma City PC Users Group

The benefits of a membership in the OKC PC Users Group are lengthy. The benefits add up to a real bargain when compared to the modest membership fee. These benefits include the following:

Networking with Members

The members of the OKC PC Users Group consist of many different professions, ages, backgrounds, and levels of experience. The Users Group prides itself on the principle of "members helping members." Many participants in the Users Group say that their primary reason for being a member of the group is for the purpose of making personal contacts with other computer users.

Monthly Meetings

The general membership meets monthly on the third Thursday of the month in the auditorium of the Kirkpatrick Center. All members and visitors are invited to meet and participate in an informative presentation about personal computers. The presentations are usually made by representatives of the major vendors within the industry. The meeting also provides an opportunity to discuss common interests with other members and to make computer related purchases.[MAP]

Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

Special interest groups also meet monthly to discuss a variety of subjects. SIG's cover such topics as programming languages, telecommunications, beginning user needs, and popular software programs. Dates of individual SIGs and times they meet are listed in this web site and in the monthly newspaper.

Monthly Newspaper

The OKC PC Users Group publishes the MONITOR monthly. The MONITOR has the largest circulation of any Oklahoma computer periodical and features articles on a wide variety of computer related subjects. The Monitor has news of the OKC PC Users Group activities. Membership dues includes a mailed subscription to the MONITOR.

Group Purchases

The OKC PC Users Group purchases selected PC related supplies and resells them to members at reduced costs. Primary items stocked are floppy disks (both low density and high density).

Bulletin Board System (BBS)

The OKC PC Users Group maintains a BBS service for its members with the IntheNet BBS in Norman, Oklahoma. You may log on as a guest at (405) 447-1121.

Seminars

The OKC PC Users Group conducts seminars at the Resource Center on a regular basis. There is a New Member Orientation and a Beginners Basics. More advanced seminars are planned in the future on such topics as Windows 95, the Internet, How to Make a Home Page, Quicken, and others.

Resource Center

The OKC PC Users Group has a Resource Center at 2800 N.W. 36th Street in Oklahoma City. Members can check out books and video tapes at the Resource Center. In the future, it is anticpated that the Resource Center will be open on a regular basis so that members can use the equipment and facilities of the Resource Center. [MAP]

Door Prizes

Door prizes are given at the end of every general session meeting. Visitors have the opportunity to win a box of diskettes or a free membership to the Users Group. However, the best prizes are donated by computer vendors and are restricted to members only. This is a good reason in itself to join the Users Group.
